Robert Schneider’s “Robbert Bobbert and the Bubble Machine”

Robert Schneider’s “Robbert Bobbert and the Bubble Machine”
Robbert Bobbert is the alter ego of Robert Schneider, frontman of the Beatles-meets-Beach-Boys-meets-indie pop band The Apples In Stereo. His debut album, Robbert Bobbert and the Bubble Machine (Little Monster Records), is a supersaturated blend of jangly guitars and singsong lyrics peppered with eclectic, mad-scientist percussive tracks and loops and recorded using the Wall of Sound production style developed by Phil Spectre and brought to indie rock by Schneider via the Elephant Six recording label. (Favorite Elephant Six album (mine): Neutral Milk Hotel's In An Aeroplane Over the Sea, which Schneider produced.)

Our favorite tracks from this album (the whole family) include "The Mighty Mighty Elephant," "Gravity," and "Fee Fi Fo Fum," the last of which deserves special props for using the old "raised pitch rapper" recording technique (think Sir Mix-a-Lot) to present, for the giddy enjoyment of any four-year-olds in the room, a rapping mouse describing his encounters with a "giant" (human) who catches him in the kitchen. You can listen to samples of all of these on Amazon and see what Robbert Bobbert is up to. Rumor has it he's working on a kids' show to spin off of this project, which makes a lot of sense... "We R Superheroes" actually sounds like a TV tryout, in both a good and bad way, like just enough or maybe a bit too much cotton candy on a hot day.

I loved We R Superheroes because I can totally imagine cute little animated characters flying around, fighting crime, and teaching kiddos good values (all with a dose of retro, bright-colored fun!) MY daughter would love to see a cartoon with a mermaid and a walrus. Thanks!

So I listened to each song. Twice and the one that I could visualize in my head as a kids show is “Her Little Puppy”. I can imagine (enter chimes, smoke and wavy lines here) a group of guys singing on the beach. Totally 50’s. Think Gidget. (Man I loved that show. mental note put Gidget on Netflix) And this cute little dog. Now in my vision he looks like my dog Roo, but don’t use that because Roo is one of those dogs that only his Mom thinks he’s cute. But a cute fluffy down with sunglasses strolling the beach in one of those long striped bathing suites. Oh yea this is just writing itself!

I’ll go with I Am A Clock since my 4-year old is trying to understand time, but can’t quite grasp it yet. Like asking “is it tomorrow? yet” throughout the day. Or picking random numbers for when he will do something, “20 o’clock” or “one eleven two.” Seems like there could be lots of material for a TV show.

“We R Superheroes” would definitely inspire a TV tale about 2 superheroes named Valiant Val and Wildly Wacky Wanda who get their powers from eating brussels sprouts, drinking carrot juice and wearing capes of muenster cheese! Along with their friends, they are out to save the world from bullies and boogers and bring laughter, giggles and brussels sprouts to all!

Thanks so much for this give~away! : )))
